U11b Play Entertaining Football

U11b Aisling 2 v Corbally 1

Corbally Utd B went down by the odd goal last Weds at Kilonan after a thoroughly entertaining match. Corbally stated the brighter pushing Annacotty back with David Cullen pulling the strings in midfield backed up by Rebecca Joyce. Annacotty counter attacked well and it was they who scored the first goal, a corner was not cleared properly and a shot was fired in despite the best efforts of Sean Hanley. Both teams were playing some nice passing football much to the appreciation of the watching crowd.
HT 1-0
The game continued as the first half with both teams attacking well. Sean Hanly made a couple of clean stops and the Corbally defence of Ian O'Loughlin, Liam Clancy and Kevin Dillon with Ian Cullen sweeping up behind them, held firm. Going forward Scott Joyce linked well with his captain Bobby O'Mara and Ben Murphy, a couple of occasions Liam O'Shanahan looked dangerous when he had the ball and was able to run at defenders. Corbally equalised when Scott Joyce fed Bobby O'Mara, who in turn passed to Ben Murphy, who beat the last defender and tucked the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
However, Annacotty hit back when again Corbally failed to clear the ball after several attempts, the ball was played out to the left winger who scored. As much as Corbally tried they were unable to gain the equaliser they deserved.

U11c Create the Better Chances

u11C  Aisling Annacotty 3 v Corbally 0

The u11C Team took to the pitch on a glorious autumn evening to face Aisling Annacotty and, despite the scoreline, should be very proud of the effort each and every one of them put in. Corbally held their own for most of the first half with the defense of Ian Kavanagh, Colm Shanny, Keenan McSweeney, Padraig Ryan and ‘keeper Morgan Fitzgerald ensuring that Aisling’s attacking threat was kept at bay. Aisling did strike first with a well worked goal but Corbally soon got back into it and, with a keener eye for goal, may well have got level shortly afterwards. Josh Pearse, Eve Meaney, Colm Kenny and Daniel Beck pushed forward from midfield at every opportunity and provided excellent support to the frontline of Ben Shanahan and Mark Long.

Aisling grabbed goals close to either side of half-time to make to 3-0 but the Corbally team’s heads never went down and with David Smyth, Kelvin McInerney, Jack Meehan, Alan Finnan and Emmett Browne replacing some tried legs in the second half Corbally were unlucky not to grab a goal or two as they created more chances. To be fair, Aisling deserved their win on the night but, for a first match of the season with minimal training behind them, this Corbally team should be proud of their efforts and I have no doubt that they will improve week on week as the season unfolds.

Finally, referees come in for a lot of stick but I’d like to recognize the referee who took charge of this match - Robert Broe. He handled the game very well and took into consideration that it was the players first time having to contend with the full size pitch, the bigger goals and ‘offside’ as well as playing under an official referee who might produce the dreaded Yellow and/or Red cards  thankfully he didn’t have to !

U14b Come Close to Dramatic result

u14b Fairview 2 v Corbally 1

On a disgraceful pitch at Fairview, unlined and with heavy loose cut grass, this pacey Corbally side missed multiple chances to get a deserved draw and pushed Fairview to the final whistle with a last ditch effort from Leon Lowe going narrowly wide.

Corbally opened the brighter and had 3 efforts saved in the early part of the game only to be caught on the break by Fairview, who added a further and led 2-0 at half time.

Colin Kelly, Niall O'Donaghue, Jeff Ryan, Robert Ryan and Graham O'Neill got into the game in the second half and played top class defending and kept Corbally on the front foot. Joshua Burke tormented Fairview in the second half and many of the Fairview defenders will have nightmares with the memories of Luke Ryan running at them supported by Shane McNamara, and Shane O'Sullivan. It was Luke Ryan who got the goal for Corbally with nice work, and a cool finish. Corbally went all out for an equaliser which they deserved but it wasn't to be. All in all a brilliant effort by all the team.

Sometimes you don't get what you deserve in football, but this result should spur this team on to new heights for this season - Corbally would encourage all players u14b players to return to training as soon as possible.

u16b Goal fest in Sporting Contest

U16b Corbally 6 v Aisling 3

Corbally came out on top in an exciting opening game of the season in U16 Division 1. The game was played in very wet conditions but a goal fest was served up and both teams showed great commitment and sportsmanship.

Corbally edged ahead early in the game through Alan Sheehan but Aisling equalised soon after.  Corbally enjoyed a purple patch and Sheehan scored all the goals as Corbally stormed into a 4-1 lead. Aisling never gave up and pulled another back before half time.

Corbally scored the opening goal of the second half (Sheehan again) but Aisling pressure was rewarded with a goal from the penalty spot. Corbally were unlucky to go down to 10 men when goalie James Maher was injured and had to withdraw. Corbally dug in deep and showed great commitment against superior numbers to score again through Philip Gale and ran out 6-3 winners.

A very enjoyable game that both teams contributed handsomely to.

U14 Girls in Sparkling Performance

U14 Girls Corbally 7 v Moyross 3

The Corbally U14 girls were in sparkling form in their latest match at home to Moyross on Friday evening. The girls were under pressure early in the game but with some top class goals from Tara Mannix and hard work in defense by Emma O'Donoghue, Niamh Garvey and Cliona Walsh, they came out well deserved winners in the end.

Corbally opened the scoring and soon after got a second, Moyross came back in to the game but Corbally led 2 - 1 at half time. In the second half, Corbally continued to press and with tremendous work from Alana and Caoimhe Mitchel, Caoimhe Sheehan, Aoife Riordan, Esre and Megan, Corbally dominated to final whistle. Well Done to all - next game Monday at 7:15 at home to Regional United.
