U11b Play Entertaining Football
U11b Aisling 2 v Corbally 1
Corbally Utd B went down by the odd goal last Weds at Kilonan after a thoroughly entertaining match. Corbally stated the brighter pushing Annacotty back with David Cullen pulling the strings in midfield backed up by Rebecca Joyce. Annacotty counter attacked well and it was they who scored the first goal, a corner was not cleared properly and a shot was fired in despite the best efforts of Sean Hanley. Both teams were playing some nice passing football much to the appreciation of the watching crowd.
HT 1-0
The game continued as the first half with both teams attacking well. Sean Hanly made a couple of clean stops and the Corbally defence of Ian O'Loughlin, Liam Clancy and Kevin Dillon with Ian Cullen sweeping up behind them, held firm. Going forward Scott Joyce linked well with his captain Bobby O'Mara and Ben Murphy, a couple of occasions Liam O'Shanahan looked dangerous when he had the ball and was able to run at defenders. Corbally equalised when Scott Joyce fed Bobby O'Mara, who in turn passed to Ben Murphy, who beat the last defender and tucked the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
However, Annacotty hit back when again Corbally failed to clear the ball after several attempts, the ball was played out to the left winger who scored. As much as Corbally tried they were unable to gain the equaliser they deserved.

U11c Create the Better Chances
u11C Aisling Annacotty 3 v Corbally 0
The u11C Team took to the pitch on a glorious autumn evening to face Aisling Annacotty and, despite the scoreline, should be very proud of the effort each and every one of them put in. Corbally held their own for most of the first half with the defense of Ian Kavanagh, Colm Shanny, Keenan McSweeney, Padraig Ryan and ‘keeper Morgan Fitzgerald ensuring that Aisling’s attacking threat was kept at bay. Aisling did strike first with a well worked goal but Corbally soon got back into it and, with a keener eye for goal, may well have got level shortly afterwards. Josh Pearse, Eve Meaney, Colm Kenny and Daniel Beck pushed forward from midfield at every opportunity and provided excellent support to the frontline of Ben Shanahan and Mark Long.
Aisling grabbed goals close to either side of half-time to make to 3-0 but the Corbally team’s heads never went down and with David Smyth, Kelvin McInerney, Jack Meehan, Alan Finnan and Emmett Browne replacing some tried legs in the second half Corbally were unlucky not to grab a goal or two as they created more chances. To be fair, Aisling deserved their win on the night but, for a first match of the season with minimal training behind them, this Corbally team should be proud of their efforts and I have no doubt that they will improve week on week as the season unfolds.
Finally, referees come in for a lot of stick but I’d like to recognize the referee who took charge of this match - Robert Broe. He handled the game very well and took into consideration that it was the players first time having to contend with the full size pitch, the bigger goals and ‘offside’ as well as playing under an official referee who might produce the dreaded Yellow and/or Red cards – thankfully he didn’t have to !
