u11's Impress, but can't find the Winner
U11a Fairview 0 v Corbally 0
- Fairview entertained Corbally at the Fairgreen on a sunny Saturday in front of a large watching crowd. Both teams were looking for points in this relegation clash. Corbally made the better start pressing the home side back in their own half for long periods, with Ewan Murphy on the right wing giving the Fairview back four a torrid time. One move saw a super cross to the back post where Eoin Phelan made good contact but put his shot wide. The Corbally midfield of Conor McNamara, Colin Madden and Marcus Browne imposed their game onto Fairview but the Fairview defence held firm and kept chances to the minimum. Whenever Fairview attacked the Corbally defence of Daire Clery,Conor McNamara,Jack Forde and Terry O'Mara cleared the danger keeping Philip Bridgeman well protected. The Corbally attackers Padraig Campbell and Marcus Browne probed the opposition defence looking for an opening.
HT 0-0
The second half continued pretty much the same as the first with Corbally pushing forward at every opportunity. Marcus Browne had a speculative shot pushed onto the post by the Fairview keeper and several Corbally corners were stoutly defended by the Fairview defence. Fairview had opportunities of their own but one attempt went high over the bar and on two occasions Philip Bridgeman in the Corbally goal was sharp off his line to clear the ball away. Both teams made substitutions in an attempt to get the crucial first score with Corbally coming closest, when a scamble occurred after a corner, defenders made several crucial blocks and the ball was cleared. At the final whistle Corbally came off the pitch knowing they had outplayed their opponents but not delivered the decisive blow to take all the points.
