U11a become Draw Specialists
U11a Corbally Utd 2 v Coonagh 2
- Corbally continued their reputation as the draw specialists of the U11 Premier by securing yet another draw against Coonagh at Athlunkard. This was their fifth draw of the season watched by a large home support.
Coonagh started the better of the two teams, were first to the ball, stronger in the tackle and passing the ball with more conviction, Corbally were pushed back and under pressure for long periods. Eventually Coonagh took the lead when the ball was hammered in over the head of the Corbally keeper from 25 yards.
Coonagh continued in the ascendancy and were unlucky not to go further ahead, an attacker broke through and as he was closed down he hit the bar with a shot from the edge of the box.
Corbally were forced into a substitution when Danny Barry was forced off with an illness, Jack Forde replaced him. Corbally came back into the game with Eoghan Carr leading the rear guard action.
Just before half time Coonagh went further ahead when a corner was not properly cleared and the bouncing ball was fired home into the roof of the net.
HT 0-2
Corbally reshuffled the pack and came out better in the second half, Eoghan Carr in midfield began to win good ball, Ewan Murphy, Marcus Browne and Padraig Campbell began to look dangerous and pushed Coonagh back. Ewan Murphy fed the ball forward for Padraig Campbell, he pushed forward and his low shot to the keepers right was parried away but Cathal Kennedy forced home the rebound.
Corbally equalised shortly after, the ball was bouncing around the Coonagh penalty box and Ewan Murphy reacted sharpest to smash the equaliser home. The game became very loose as the ball went end to end, Conor McNamara led the back four by example getting his head and body to numerous long balls and galvanised his fellow Corbally defenders Daire Clery, Jack Forde and Terry O'Mara.
Corbally nearly forced a winner when Marcus Browne broke free on the right, his fierce cross shot flew across the face of the goal and was narrowly missed by Cian Moore.
In the end a draw was a fair result and the large watching crowd applauded both teams off the pitch.
