U11's Deserve More

U11a Corbally Utd 2 v Mungret 2

- On a beautiful sunny morning a good sized crowd were witness to a hotly contested U11 Premier league match at Athlunkard. Mungret went into the match as league leaders and not having dropped a point so far this season. So it was an excellent performance from Corbally to secure a point although on reflection many thought we could have taken all the points.

Mungret started the match well pushing Corbally back into their own half, the back four of Daire Clery, Eoghan Carr, Conor McNmara and Terry O'Mara and Philip Bridgeman showing good handling and composure held strong.  Corbally began to force their way back into the match launching attacks of their own. The Corbally midfield of Ewan Murphy, Colin Madden, Robert Clancy and Eoin Phelan working very hard to get on top.
Challenges were flying in from both teams but also some good football was being played. Eoghan Carr went down after taking a kick to the knee, he bravely continued to give a captains performance.
Midway through the half, Mugret had a throw in their own half, Ewan Murphy intercepted the throw, shrugged off a challenge and scored with a low drive.
Mungret came back at the hosts, a ball was played through into the Corbally penalty box, both attacker and keeper challenged for the ball, the attacker went to ground and a penalty was given. Although Philip Bridgeman got a hand to the spot kick he could not stop it going in.
HT 1-1
The second half started with both teams attacking, it was Corbally who struck first. The Mungret keeper carried the ball out of his area and conceded a free kick. It took some time to set up the wall, Marcus Browne stepped up and fired the ball into the roof of the net, a fantastic goal. The game continued in the same manner with the game flowing end to end, strong tackles and lots of good football by both sides. Mungret had a break where a shot from the edge of the box skimmed the cross bar. Mungret equalised when a long cross from the left floated over the head of the Corbally keeper and into the net. As the game wore on it was Corbally who became stronger, both teams had attacks but it was Corbally who came closest to a winner when Robert Clancy headed a corner against the foot of the post. Corbally had several breaks with Robert Clancy and Padraig Campbell prominent, Padraig broke through on one occasion only for as defender to deflect the shot for a corner.
FT 2-2

Many thanks to the vocal Corbally support and especially to the substitutes who, although not used, were constantly encouraging the team mates.
