A great tournament with great weather. We met at 7.30am at Corbally Utd and headed for Clonmel. The whole setup was excellent; the pitches were perfect, fruit bags and drinks for all players. There was a slight change in plans as the pitches were setup for under 10’s so we had to play 9 aside instead of 7 with one sub. Our lads played extremely well against tough opposition. We played South End from Waterford first and the lads gave a great display of passing and moving and all worked really hard in hot conditions. We won 2 – 1 with Mark McMahon and Sean O’ Dwyer scoring.
We went on to play Rockmount from Cork in the Semi Finals who were a very tough outfit with some very big lads, but this did not deter Corbally as they took the lead with a lovely lob over the keeper, scorer Jack Doyle. Chances went both ways with Rockmount putting on the pressure they equalized through their number 11 who cut in from the left wing and shot hard to beat our keeper. We had two more chances to go ahead and so did they as play went from end to end. Final whistle 1 – 1 and so on to penalties as these two good sides could not be separated. Penalties 4 a piece and still stalemate, into sudden death and Corbally just lost out missing their penalty. This Rockmount team went on to meet Clonmel in the final and beat them easily 3 – 0.
The coaches would like to thank all the parents who turned up and special congratulations to the boys who were outstanding in their first tournament. Again thanks from Frank, Noel, and Brian.
